Obituary of April Daniels-Lockaby

April Daniels-Lockaby passed peacefully surrounded by her family on August 19, 2020 after achieving her goal of outliving cancer to see the age of 50. Born August 18, 1970 the world was forever changed by the birth of April. Since she was young, she always wanted to help people, whether it was by being a pediatric endocrinologist or a teacher she just wanted to make this world a better place. She is predeceased by her late husband Chris and her father Martin. April is survived by her husband Randy, daughter Kaylee, son Ryan and countless other family members and friends that had their lives forever changed for the better by her loving spirit. April is an alumnus of Cocoa High School and the University of Central Florida. She earned her degree in secondary education. She became a dedicated teacher at Space Coast Jr/Sr High School. April became one of the most decorated theatre teachers in the county. She set off her theatre career with a few goals in mind: have a competition team with 100% medal winning ratings, take a one act to state competition, perform a main stage at state competition, bring back the SCHS middle school competition team and direct The Addams Family the musical all before she retires. Not only did she achieve these goals, she surpassed them! Two years in her career she had 100% medaled competition pieces, which included a best in show runner up on the district level and a piece that was rewarded with the highest score in the category on the state level. She took on a world premiere One Act so now her name is eternally written on the fifth page as the director, and she got to direct a student written One Act that was selected to perform at the State Thespian Festival. She got to see her own students perform in the Tampa Theatre, her favorite theatre at the competition setting, which was followed by the scripts from that show being sold out at the venue. The middle school competition group was rated superior or best in show every year her students participated, sweeping the competition. She also got to direct The Addams Family in her son’s senior year of high school to which she got to watch him take a bow for his last performance in her favorite show. Now her passion can be felt when standing in the auditorium that became a second home, which houses her overflowing trophy case. April was a devoted mother and wife who spent most of her life making memories with her two children and husband. She enjoyed sharing her time with them at theme parks, the theatre where she worked; even performing in a school musical together and watching football games at the high school where she worked and at various NFL stadiums. Her biggest smiles were seen at Raymond James Stadium where she watched her favorite team the Tampa Bay Buccaneers play. Along with her passion for football, she went on to be two-time family Fantasy Football league champion. A private memorial will be held on August 29th at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church of Merritt Island Chapel for immediate family. A celebration of April’s life will be held later for extended family and friends on a date and time yet to be determined due to COVID-19.
