Nancy Lavant-Gilmore

Obituary of Nancy A Lavant-Gilmore

Nancy A. LaVant Gilmore beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother born August 2, 1936 departed this world on December 27, 2020 in her home in Rockledge Fl. Nancy was born in Baltimore, Maryland, (daughter of Louis Brent Ellis Sr. and Ethel Catherine Weedon Ellis) and lived most of her first forty years in the Baltimore and Annapolis area, where she worked in numerous positions in the government including the Securities and Exchange Commission, Federal Aviation Administration, and the Department of Defense. After her daughter, Mitzi LaVant Barrall, relocated to the Melbourne, Florida area, Nancy transferred to Cape Canaveral Space Center and Patrick Air Force Base in Florida. She continued her employment in the Federal Government, and to live near her only child Mitzi Barrall and son-in-law Jim Barrall and her only grandchild James Paul Barrall. She and her husband John (Jack) C. Gilmore, (retired Brevard County Public Defender/Melbourne Police Detective) lived in several locations in Brevard County, Fl. Over the past 40 years. Nancy had a natural flare for making people feel comfortable and happy. She could mix with royalty and common staff, alike, and keep all entertained with stories of the “good old days” and early childhood of their farm-like home in Maryland. She loved getting dressed-up for church and was known as “Fancy Nancy”, for her many colorful flowered bonnets. She was the “Belle of the Ball”, ready to roll out the “Red Carpet”, and get the show underway. There will be a celebration of her life later this year in Maryland and a church service at St. John’s the Evangelist Catholic Church in Viera. In Lieu of Flowers, please consider a donation to the Hospice of St. Francis, Titusville, Florida. A Special Thank-You for the entire team from Hospice of St. Francis, and an added heart felt Thank-You to the amazing and devoted Crisis Care Nurses who devoted there time and support during the holidays, round the clock, adding so much care and warmth during a very difficult family period. https://reflectionslsc.org/donate/%3Cbr
