Obituary of Emily M Brassaw

Emily (Sis) Brassaw passed away peacefully surrounded by love on August 27, 2021 at the age of 90. Emily was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She leaves a legacy of love and laughter. Emily was born in Phillipsburg, NJ on January 14, 1931. During WWII, she was a Junior Commando and later a Phillipsburg H.S. Cheerleader, active in many clubs and graduated in the Class of 1948, a proud Stateliner forever. Emily resided in her hometown of Phillipsburg where she raised her three children. In 2014 she moved to Port St. John, FL to be closer to her son. After many years as a volunteer at Warren Hospital, she excelled as the Administrative Assistant for over 35 years in the Volunteer Office. In addition, she worked part-time at the Phillipsburg Pharmacy for over 40 years. Emily volunteered with Meals on Wheels, served on the local Red Cross Board and on the P.H.S. Class of 1948 Reunion Committee. She was active with her Church Family as a lifelong member at Westminster Presbyterian Church and she found a spiritual home at the United Methodist Church of Port St. John, participating in bible study and the women’s group. Sis was known for her vibrant red hair, bright blue eyes and radiant smile. She enjoyed socializing with friends and family and staying in touch with them throughout her lifetime. Emily always loved the holidays, especially Christmas, was an observer of nature’s beauty and gained a new interest in watching rocket launches, viewable from her front lawn. Emily was predeceased by her parents, H. Monroe Hess and M. Emily Flory Hess, sister Jane Roling (Dick) and beloved son Jim Brassaw. She is survived by her daughters Gail Clymer (Stanley) and Lori Brassaw Powell (Garry), daughter-in-law Donna Brassaw, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one niece and family, and many cousins.
