Obituary of Frank Thompson

Frank May Thompson, 87, of Melbourne, Florida, died September 29, 2010. He was born to Frank Dale Thompson and June May Thompson in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 26, 1923. Frank is survived by his four children, Craig Thompson and Karen Thompson of Miami, Florida, Amy Eastham of Victoria, Texas, and Jay Thompson of Gaithersburg, Maryland. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and his live-in partner, Jeannine Gehl. Frank served in the Marine Corps in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1946 and saw combat on the islands of Saipan, Tinian, Guam, and Iwo Jima. After the war, he finished his bachelor's degree at the University of Virginia, and then his M.B.A. from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. His business career included Vice President of Personnel and Labor Relations at Bulova Watch Company, American Express and Eastern Airlines. Education was important to Frank. He was President of the School Volunteer Program of Greater Miami for many years, which grew to more than 30,000 volunteers under his leadership. He also served on the Board of Directors of the National School Volunteer Program and the Variety Children's Hospital in Miami. Frank was a member of the Marine Corps League, Marine Corps Association, and the Fraternal Order of the Elks. Arrangements by family owned and operated Atlantic Mortuary, Rockledge 321-636-0869.
